(Rumor) Oracle: Major layoffs are to come in January 2009
According to rumors from different sources: “There were several layoffs reported between November - December, 2008 in Oracle’s North America consulting unit. The reduction in force included 140 IT consultants specializing in Siebel, E-Business Suite, PeopleSoft, J.D. Edwards, and Hyperion products.”
Rumor: “A bunch of people were laid off from Oracle’s business units including utility and retail. Major layoffs are to come in Jan 2009″.
Rumor: “at least 2 people were laid off from PeopleSoft/Oracle unit with no warning.”
Rumor: “20% of the Education staff was let go”.
Update: According to Dow Jones and CNNMoney: “Oracle Corp.’s (NASDAQ: ORCL) fiscal second-quarter net income fell slightly, with the stronger dollar dragging on revenue and profitability.
Revenue for the quarter was lower than Wall Street expected, reflecting both the currency impact and weaker information-technology expenditure, but cost control and a strong flow of maintenance support revenue helped Oracle hit its quarterly earnings per share guidance.”
Update 2 (1-09-2009): According to rumors:
- SAP layoffs: “A source reports that SAP is making some deep cuts in SAP’s Strategic Growth Enterprise (SGE) unit (focused on the SMB space). A 300 sales-related positions were affected in North America.”
- Infor layoffs: A source reports that “Infor just laid off a staggering 85% of their senior managers and executives across UK and Europe.”
Update 3 (1-11-2009):
- India’s Oracle office in Bangalore lays off 40 people, according to The Time of India.
- Oracle India has an extensive network of more than 400 channel and alliance partners in India, which includes Infosys, Satyam, Sonata, Tata Consultancy Services and Wipro.
Update 4 (1-12-2009):
- Reports said that after the acquisition of i-Flex, Oracle was planning to lay off almost all employees of that company, though the decision was scrapped after intervention of Oracle’s management, as the layoff of all i-Flex employees could project a failure of the acquisition, according to rumor
Update 5 (1-13-2009):
- An anonymous report suggests that termination packages were sent out to folks on 1/9/2009 in the US.
- PCWorld mentioned LayoffBlog.com in their Oracle layoff-related article.
- ComputerWorld also mentioned LayoffBlog.com.
Update 6 (1-13-2009):
- Oracle cut around 500 positions in its North American sales and consulting businesses last Friday (January 9, 2009), according to WSJ and other sources.
- Investors had anticipated a larger scale of the job cuts thanks to the rumors last week that the company was aiming to eliminate thousands of its employees, according to Yahoo Finance
- Oracle employed 86,657 globally at the end of November.
Update 7 (7-2-2009):
~ LayOffBlog.com: Please feel free to comment this info and/or send us your updates regarding Oracle layoffs. ~

Hi This is Keith,
Next in line will be Cosulting practice managers, directors, technical directors, VP’s , Recource analysts and Support staff(Admin).
These are all addding lot of overhead in consulting as they are non revenue genearators.
They will be part of RIF soon.
HR, RA and Admin will be outsources to india as part of RPO (Recruitement process outsourcing).
Management will be consoliated and i will only hire smart top tech talent from MIT.
All indians will be shown door from management or they have will be demoted to staff consultants…
Yeah right !!!!
Once you show all Indians the door, you will only have doors left and nobody else.
I once worked on an international project in the asia pacific wherein the local practice had asked the US Consulting division for help as the project was very complicated and they had failed twice to implement.
The US team was sent which consisted of 8 Consultants and a Project Manager.
Guess what ????
7 out of 8 Consultants were Indians (H1bs and Green Cards) and 1 Consultant and PM was American.
I now hope you understand that your dream to show all Indians the door will remain a dream forever and ever.
Cut that crap patriot! We already have enough of your kind out here.
And more will come to take the place of morons like you
If h1bs were cheap, but not skilled then nobody would have hired us.
The american govt allows employees to come on h1bs. If you have a problem, take it with your govt.
You whining here is not going to make any difference at all.
Dear fake Keith Block,
you better block yourself on this blog.for here we are discussing about the layoff news and not interested to know what you think in your mind.If you have left any respect for yourself then better, maintain the respect of other consultants irrespective their origin.
Interesting that this article about Obama’s plan to remove tax loopholes for companies that have foreign subsidiaries mentions Oracle explicitly.

Anybody know of anyone that has gotten a Performance Improvement Plan (PIP)lately? I know of a few,
looks like they’re getting ready for another round VERY soon.
I was issued a PIP abt a week ago and was given a hard to achieve target. The most astonishing fact is that guys who have been in the org for longer but have better pipeline but no revenue delivery till date seem to have escaped the pip sword. Ive been given a months time after which I will be terminated if i fail to reach the set target.
Same here, very hard to achieve target. what org are you in? I’m speaking about NAS OD. And do you know of
others that may have gotten one?
Yea, I got one too. People seem to think the job I do sucks.
If you are on plan, can you still get a RIF package?
Not sure abt anybody else, but once a colleague of mine in OD NAS told me abt a few people who have got it. Ther’s also a talk abt May 15th when a layoff could happen.
Microsoft on Tuesday notified more than 3,000 workers that it was eliminating their jobs.

Hi All,
Its a 100% confirm news that there is a major layoff (aprox 5K)coming friday, May 8th.
Sales and Fixed Cost Projects are going to hit hard.
Yesterday, Keith Block had calls with all consulting director on the issue.
Coming friday Keith is going to have a all hands call at 1 PM to address this.
First time, Oracle will announce the layoff to media also.
Whats the source of this information? And 5K seems to be a large number which doesnt seem to comply with WARN.
At this time, only contractors are getting the sword. Many contractors were let go on 1st May.
Many are listed for May 8th, 15th and 22nd. Any contractor assigned to a project is safe for now.
Any contractor rolling off from project in May has been marked for layoff on following Friday.
Consulting is safe for 8th May, but not sure about 15th May. I can only see who would get the axe 2 days before the D day,
so will have to wait till 13th May to find out.
Any idea abt Salesforce?
Yes I would be interested to know if Sales is “listed” for any dates in May, also.
what abt developers? any idea?
I only have access to see billable consultants. I am sorry I have no idea about salesforce, development, admin, support, etc.
If you are a consultant on bench or rolling off a project in May, then I can see if you are “listed”, but not otherwise.
I heard this from a Senior Director … Guys try your best to get a project (even if a short one) by next week. Another idea would be 12 weeks FMLA. Go on a FMLA leave immiediately. You do need to have a valid reason. If you do that, then your job is safe for atleast the next 12 weeks.
Insider, your posts are bogus. You say you have access to only billable consultants. NO contractor in the billable world is EVER paid for anything but a billable project, so if they roll off a project, they are done no matter what. OC Contractors are only paid for billable work.
May 15th end of pay period and a Friday what better way to let people go. Oracle way of doing things
When you hire employees, you have higher headcount. When you use consultants, you don’t. There are great financial implications here. The finance department in any company prefers to keep “revenue per employee” high when it reports financial performance to the stockholders. By using consultants, or contractors, a company keeps its actual headcount low while still having the number of workers it needs.
Guys Q4 results is coming. Oracle will layoff lot of people . becacuse its all about numbers and revenue per employee.
Clear instructions from Safra and finance team to reduce headcount by 20%.
So you will see lot of your collegues let go in coming days. Sure they want to maintain their stock price and revenue per share.
Most of the US consultants are being quietly replaced by Oracle indian consultants who are on L1 VISA which is being abused to bring cheap labor.
They are paid indian salarys and here apartemt, car and dollars for their food.
Its more deadly than H1 VISA. NO CAP , no limits for a fortune 500 company which has a company overseas.
Cost savings with replacement : 75% Lol.
All the US Projects are being replaced by Indian oracle consulatnts who are cheap and bring lot of revenue to oracle, larry and safra.
CAPITALISM LONG LIVE…………………………..
Folks unfortunately it has been confirmed. I am a Manager at Oracle and I have been told by my VP that tomorrow five of the seven reps directly under my management will be part of a RIF. As I understand it the offices that will be affected most are Redwood Shores, Burlington, and Mississauga. The news I am hearing from other Managers and my Director is that this will affect strategic, commercial, emerging markets in both apps and tech for the Field and Oracle Direct. I know other parts of the company are going to be hit as well but do not have any insight. We are not being told everything as I am sure that some of our jobs are on the line.
It is sad to see this going on I have been with Oracle for almost five years now and I feel terrible for the people I have to let go tomorrow and everyone here. We are all part of a larger plan to show profitably. Over 95% of the business that is going to book before May 31st is so far baked that they do not need us anymore. What they are trying to do is cut back costs associated with the end of Q4, especially headcount which will ultimately affect bonuses. This will allow Safra, and Larry to show growth and profitability to the Street.
I wish you all the best of luck.
Thank you for your information. One question, did you give your five reps PIP’s to prepare for the RIF?
Whats RIF? And can anybody tell me the locations which may be affected. I mean countries. OD is in NA and in 2 locations in India as well I think.
Reduction In Force… Left over from the 80s.
Is tomorrow’s RIF going to include all area’s of OD (Enterprise, HigherEd, Healthcare)?
10-20% layoffs coming today and tomorrow in NA sales. Confirmed by my friend who is a sales manager on the east coast. They waited to have the bea severance agreement over with and wanted to lay people off before the end of the year so that they don’t have to pay end of year bonuses. Sales, sales management, sales consulting, and sales support, and field marketing are affected.
How about OD, Support and OU?
I doubt we will see a major section of Reps riffed tomorrow (OD excluded). Its too close to the end of the year, and they need people to make sure things get signed. Now, if you have nothing projceted for the rest of the quarter, then I can see it. But I know of two deals that got hourked up due to a rep being laid off in Jan. And I doubt they will risk it. Reps are running around looking for $20k deals. Its amazing, normally those large enterprise reps will scoff at a 20k deal but they are hustling for it.
Best of luck to all of us who are on the line. I think I am safe, but am not 100% sure. I won’t feel safe until I see 20% cut from our org, this is inclusive of the 9% we have seen since beginning of last year.
To all have been laid off (some of you), might be laid off tomorrow (a few more of you), or will eventually be laid of (the rest)….
Just remember that this is just a job and nothing more. You are bigger than even Oracle and on day 1 after being cut, you will find yourself staring at an open canvas full of opportunities. Even as bad as the economy is right now, there is still 93% employment.
Hang in there and God speed. Keep perspective. Use this temporary setback to further your life.
Homer
Does anyone have any more details on which business unit will be affected the most?
Homer
Thanks for your words
Good Luck to all
I work as an OD Account Manager in Burlington, MA and I’m extremely concerned about my job being cut before the end of May as I have field deals set to close which I’m relying on greatly to salvage an otherwise horrible year in my territory. I can’t believe that they would not wait to layoff the sales teams until end of year when things die down.
My understanding is that Oracle offers $0 severance package to Sales Reps and without the commissions from these last two field deals my family will be at risk of losing our house. Right now I am just praying that I will have a job long enough to be paid for the hard work I have done all year. This is awful!
OD-ead man walking, Sales support (sales consultants, marketing, overlays, etc) are getting laid off in may) I am not sure about sales people with deals in the pipe. Severance is two weeks pay for every year at Oracle plus a month of Cobra. The layoffs are rolling and are taking place every friday for the next couple of weeks, with a bunch of people being laid off today. Layoffs happen first thing in the morning, so they would have happened by now if they were happening this week. I have heard back from some people I know in the midwest and they did get laid off today. One was a sales consultant, one was a field marketing person. It was the usual oracle procedure of a morning con call with the manager followed up by a fed-ex containing the last check. If you don’t have a meeting or call scheduled with your manager this morning then you are not getting laid off today. You will know you are getting laid off when your manager schedules a one on one with you for some time between eight am and 9 am. That is how it is done.
Major RIF on the way to India Dev Centers too. Guys should have a backup plan. In India, market is not that bad.
-Adviser
Adviser, can you provide some details? Which group? When?
Hey, you dont screw with Q4. C’mon guys be real. I will eat my hat if we see significant sales layoffs during Q4. June yes…May no.
Just read #5152 by Homer Simpson. Well stated. No worries regardless of what happens.
Everyone I talk to is saying that layoffs are impossible until June. The affect on Sales Reps morale alone is enough to keep them from doing something like this before the end of Q4. I specifically expect to be laid off in June as my territory has performed horribly which reflects directly on me in spite of a huge FY08 (which tapped out my territory for FY09). Meanwhile, Oracle would be subject to a huge class action suit were they to RIF 5,000 employees (esp. sales) with just 3 weeks left in the fiscal year. They already went through a huge lawsuit that was well-publicized in which they were forced to pay out substantial overtime to employees who were being taken advantage of by the salary structure. Firing reps who have been working on business all year only to avoid paying them for the end of year deals would be a major legal issue.
However, that said, I am not comfortable with how things sound based on these rumors based on the accuracy of previous rumors regarding layoffs. We shall see. If management were planning to lay off sales reps today then we would have been told first thing in the morning today and there have been no layoffs in Burlington, MA yet which is one of the primary targets apparently.
Yes, I agree to Oracle_OD_REP. Also, even there has not been anything happening here until now. Usually if there was a layoff, things would have started by this time.
I left the Big 0 almost 4 yrs ago of my own accord. I was there almost 10 yrs. I’m sure everyone else thought I was a ‘lifer’, and it surprised a bunch of people when I resigned. All I can say is that 4 yrs on, I am still very proud and grateful for my time at Oracle, but I do not regret leaving one bit. There is a big world where there is so much to do, and you don’t have to ask HQAPP for approval everytime you do something. Keep that in mind as you ponder a layoff. Sometimes it’s for the best.
Today is my last day with Oracle. This huge company just isn’t for me. I just celebrated my 10 year anniversary of hiring with BEA last week and it wasn’t even recognized. I haven’t felt this good in a long time.
I tend to agree with you - I am a long term O, but I think the time has come to leave. Agree fully with the issue about seeking approval for everything. If I get laid off, no regrets, but no big deal. I’m not saying “Sour grapes!” - I am just saying “Que Sera Sera”.
I received a Corrective Counseling Plan back in Feb, and got two warnings, and then it was dropped. I was notified today that they are renewing it. Does this mean I will be eligible for a layoff, or does it mean I will be fired with cause? It seems to me that this is a good way for Oracle to avoid paying the layoff packages.
- Waiting for Oracle to decide
Forget the mention that the reason for the Corrective Action Plan is because of low job utiltization, because they have no jobs available for us.
- Waiting for Oracle to decide
Anyone know how many consultants got on the bench as a result of a major Oracle project cancellation at Sun?
150 - 200 ppl I guess from Americas
Got whacked end of April. Part of GBU that was doing very, very poorly. 5 weeks severance, 1 month of cobra. That’s it.
Actually happy to be out of there.
I was a Sales Consultant.
It’s not the end of the world there are many job opportunities that will greatly value your Oracle experience and time.
I greatly appreciate and value my time with Oracle, but I have to admit I was treated very poorly by Oracle. I think burger flippers at McDonald’s are treated better than the way I was treated.
Happy to be moving on….
Does anyone know where Oracle’s US Support Centers are located? Do they provide support out of the Burlington MA area, or any where else in the Northeast?
I think its pretty easy to figure out which GBU is sucking it up.
oracle is laying off.. and its confirmed that support and technical teams are affected.
will developers be affected? Any idea when the layoffs are going to happen?
I have heard rumors of layoffs in consulting this week in US, any idea if these are true?
Any layoffs in Orlando? Specifically in tech support?
From Keith Block’s straight talk session, it seems the layoffs will be on 5th June. I am just trying to read between the lines. Typically, he has a session after the earnings call. This time, he is going to have it before the earnings call. What could be the major reason? Layoffs, I think. They cannot do it in Q4, so it has to be early Q1.
just watch, we’re all going to working for minimum wage again
capitalist-generous=GREEDY
10 from support gone in cario, eygpt!
Confirmed Layoffs in Egypt DB, PSFT, On demand
today, presumably because tomorrow is not working day?
hi!
i’ve just completed my exams and am recruited to oracle and seem to have no word about offer
letters we’ve received a mail about the joining being in dec’09 which was nt very encouraging though bt we still dont have a proof like a offer letter about any details of joining!
can anyone plz comment on this! this is on behalf of a lot of students from different colleges who’ve expressed similar thoughts!
Priya if you look hot you can survive in Big ‘O’
This is reminiscent of 2000. IT Bust in India. Freshers and other new recruits confirmation dates were put on hold in 01-02. Similar thing is happening in IT market in India. Things in USA have long got out of hand, but its effect is now felt in India.
Oracle India is a good company to start your career , esp in India. But in these bad times, every company has to do what it has to do.
Sit tight, or you can find another gig for next 6mons, as we don’t know when the market will recover. You can equip yourself with lot other work like studying for oracle certifications, as this will aid your career even if you don’t join Oracle. Get training to add unique skillset rather than the generic C,C++,Java,.Net,Mainframe. (But dont spend too much money ..technologies change fast )
Remember lot of experienced people are without jobs these days. It much more difficult for them than you as a fresher. Also when jobs come back, its experienced people who will get preference than fresher (unless companies are worried about money). Also when freshers were invited back in 2002-2003, their salaries were re-negotiated by the IT companies. So dont get surprised.
Any Layoff in EMEA anywhere … ? Support anyone ?
Oracle started lay off also in egypt , although egypt is one of the cost effective centers , there is about 7 Eng. from support was laid off
Priya,
My best advice is RUN…don’t walk…you do not want to work for Oracle. Never have I spent so much of my life worrying about my job on a day to day basis. Piss poor place to work and I have worked in some really crappy places. They are still making plenty of money but have used the economic times as a way to lay off people, cut bonuses, and nix raises. I thought I had reached nirvana when I started at Oracle but from day one it was a vast wasteland of fend for yourself and worry even during the good times. Plenty of better places to work.
JMHO.
Betterforgetit
let’s not be hasty. if the lad should have an uncommon appetite for @$$ gr@vy, and the talent to sing its praises, then O is just the place.
your are right - never work for oracle and how true major wasteland. each day you are worried and stressed about the next day and its just crazy.
management is the biggest issue - they are the lowest of low of scum running it. but that is what it takes to work at oracle - u need to be scum! you need to be a jerk and competitive and kiss fat butts to survive!
in addition, you need to be not visible. you cannot be better than you manager either…and the list goes on and on.
unfortunately, the remaining employees needs their jobs because there are none in out there for us who have been laid off thanks to ellison’s peons’!
sj
ps - any comments out there on the hr incompetency?
1)Bottom line: Buffalo-area plane crash didn’t have to happen
Testimony also indicated that Renslow and Shaw made critical errors that may have been the result of insufficient training.
Both pilots were paid hourly at $12.50/Hour.
A person in walmart who is standing near main entrance and wishing people ‘Welcome to
walmart’ makes $13/hour.
2)Why Circuit City Failed
When I actually needed a new TV, however, I found the Circuit City salesperson to be so aggressively unknowledgeable and remarkably useless that I fled to Best Buy, where I was helped by a cheerful, 20-year-old twerp who knew everything. I later learned that in 2007, Circuit City had fired the chain’s 3,400 most experienced salespeople and replaced them with generic, untrained, near-minimum-wage workers.
3)WHY ORACLE Failed : YEAR 2011
Has Fired all the experiences support people in the last 2 years (Replaced them with cheap
people from India (Offshore) as well as Here ie:H1, L1 and College Graduates.
Customers are unhappy with oracle support because of poorly trained unskilled cheap
workforce.
All the clients switched to SAP and Microsoft.
Mean Larry and his managment was chased down the street by irate customers….
Its a matter of time …
Wake up and go ask your clients abt the quality of US Support Engineers.
Almost every client I talk to tells me that OSS stands for “Oracle Support Sucks”. There is nothing called Services.
Most of the Engineers are just keen on getting to their numbers and closing TARs even when issues are not resolved as the Managers are breathing down the neck.
I have worked in Development, Consulting and Support and seen the picture from everywhere. You Support personnel should be lucky that there are H1bs and India Support Centers and these Engineers are the Saving grace which is keeping atleast a little bit faith left in OSS.
Flame on …
Get out you people from third world countries , do not take our jobs !!!!
DONT use MY NAME, take a different one please!
Sadly, we are dependent on Engineers from 3rd World Countries as we do not have the necessary skillset.
Brian: The earlier poster is right. I have had the same experience working with Oracle Support. My Service Requests were rarely resolved. My colleagues can also vouch for the same. I feel bad for our fellow americans, but that is the reality and I have decided to accept it.
“Sadly, we are dependent on Engineers from 3rd World Countries as we do not have the necessary skillset.”
Please…. Americans have the skill set and a dedicated work ethic. This is not about skill set at all but cost or strategic planning (having a presents in the markets you sell in). Americans have helped develop many new economies, including economies that USA has started with the blood of our people.
Right now Americans have had it. We are one of the hardest working people and corporations treat us like shit. It so bad that our current political environment is tossing out socialistic ideas and looking at Europe as models that we should strive for. Are we ready to give up our entrepreneurial sprit? Our leadership in the world?
Hey Brain
No conuntires is taking US jobs , if you doesn’t think see the situation of other than IT industries in USA .
If you think others countries doing cheap job in support , & review the work that you done in past 6 months.
I see many tars & SR’s which have clearly mistaken of onsite people & we are saying sorry to customer for onsite guys mistake .
It also depends upon indivdual , if person works ,he might be commit mistake , no one is god here.
kindly do not under esstimate the tech. skill set on behalf of any country or religon..
@ Anonymous
I don’t know where you work, or get your information, but for the last year or so all we’ve been chased about is survey results - ie. surveys the customers answer after service requests have been closed - not sheer volume of closed SRs. We’ve managed to increase our surveys beyond our reasonably high targets so far, so customers can’t be too pi$$ed at us.
What if you are in process of transferring to another group and your manager gives your name for the layoff so that he/she doesn’t loose any of his/her favorite person(those who are always the YES man).. I know some people sucks there…
WHAT ABOUT EMEA !
IS THIS FORUM N/A FOR EMEA … ? no news … no one is there from Europe ? ? ?
I am hearing a lot of comments in the ecosystem about some pretty amazing stunts being pulled by ORCL sales reps the last few weeks in the runup to Q4 close. Audits, threats, you name it - for small, <100K deals. Compliance seems to be the way to meet your number these days. Interested to know if others are seeing the same. This stuff always existed, but the volume seems to be getting to CA-like caliber.
what is Oracle’s official procedure for redundancy selection, if there is one? by law you need one!
Are people told why they are selected once thy are shown the doors?
By whose law? That would vary from country to country and even state to state in the US.
Compensation may vary , not how you select one !
Quote a LAW in the US (or any country for that matter) that says that any company is required to have a policy for redundancy. In the US, no such LAW exists - at least not in California, which has more strict labor LAWS than most states. They can throw darts at a list of names or pull names out of a hat if they want. Of course there are LAWS against discrimination, etc. But nothing states that they have to provide an official procedure.
Since you use the word “redundancy” I will take a wild guess that you are in the UK. There may be a LAW that requires that. If so, good for you! In the US there is none.
I am sure Oracle has multiple policies for how they choose based on multiple factors (which may include throwing darts), but there is no US law requiring them to provide it.
ORCL’s rifs are financially (spreadsheet) driven from the top. Its a formula - is $600K of rev/FTE. That number is likely changed now, nut the concept is the same. One businees unit needed to reduce from 160 > 120 FTE’s after the “new leader” botched his planning and ops review in front of Larry. ” C Ya”… The remaining team and relevant virtual members received a copy of the spreadsheet with employee data and a US map showing locations; Then we picked the dead wood and the keepers and just started discussing each person. Very business-like, nothing cynical. Oracle was generoud then as most all had 30 days to look internally.
what is Oracle’s official procedure for redundancy selection, if there is one? by law you need one! ANSWER - the ones the managers or senior managers do not like are their officical procedure
Are people told why they are selected once thy are shown the doors?
no - jus that its a RIF and nothing more - a script is read to you and thats it. and then a fed ex personcomes to the door to give you the papers, then you are denied access by noon
I beleive the criteria is that they RIF the people who write with poor spelling and poor grammar.
clearly you are still employed at oracle considering your user name is linked to Oracles web link. why don’t you do your work instead of stalk poor folks like us who have been RIF’d and leave us alone.
thnx - one who purposely wrote in bad grammar and poor spelling to get on your nerves because you have nothing else to do except stalk ex-oracle folks
now, now people, can we stick to the subject of layoffs, etc. and not
personal attacks? Has anybody noticed on irecruitment that yesterday, May 18
there were a LOT of sales jobs posted in NA. So I know this doesn’t mean added
headcount, I’m guessing it means they are anticipating a combo of layoffs
and resignations. Any thoughts?
Done with cutting deadwood and now pumping in some fresh blood?
I don’t think they’re done cutting, I think they are about to cut jobs
and replace those same positions with lower pay. No change in headcount
but a big decrease in operational costs.
The Chinese In US are more than Indians but i see Indians blamed for all the job losses. A count of Chinese in US job markets shows how much they have hurt Americans. They are way way ahead of Indians. Everything made and used in America is China made - so calculate the job losses to Americans, who always bark up the wrong tree !!
Any news on layoffs on the 22nd? If your manager asked for a last minute meeting the morning of the 22nd that not a great sign.
You talking about 2 different kind of jobs here . Low level factory jobs (toys, shoes mostly made in china) Vs 80-120K per year software job losing to Indian.
steady on Viper , lets stick to layoffs and leave complicated issues to another forum
If a layoff will happen it will be on June 5th because with everyone trying to close deals oracle will not rock the boat and have customers uneasy before deals close
Yup, getting fired tomorrow - - - NA consulting!!
Which state?
GA
I will be shocked if it happens on a Wednesday. (Unless you are just getting fired and not RIF’ed.) If you are getting RIF’ed it will Friday the 29th. It’s the end of the pay period and the end of the quarter.
Better Believe … History!! And others too!!
Believe what? You were laid off today? Or that “Mad” was?
Yup
What do you mean “Yup?” I asked three questions….
any ideas of layoffs in development?
Layoffs will occur - how many, who knows? It’s a J-O-B though many people are worried about their families, healthcare, mortgage, etc. Get your resume together and be prepared in case. I wouldn’t make yourself sick over being laid off from Oracle. If you do get RIF’d, at least it’s over summer when the kids are home and you might actually get to spend time with them opposed to working yourself to death at Oracle. THink positive. Lay offs are for Business needs and not personal. Take what you’ve learned and experienced and move on. There is life after Oracle…
