Motorola to cut 4,000 more jobs
According to Reuters: “Motorola Inc (NYSE:MOT) will slash another 4,000 jobs, or an estimated 6 percent of its workforce, and warned that it would have a fourth-quarter loss as sales of mobile phones were weaker than expected. Analysts had been expecting a new round of job cuts at Motorola, after 6,700 employee departures in 2008.”

Update 2 (1-17-2009): according to leaks from inside, Morotola to cut about 100 jobs in their office in St.Petersburg, Russia

This is the end for Motorola mobile, in my view. There is too much patronizing, corruption, bureaucracy, high level management incompetence, and worst, this is rewarded, and the people who are let go in all cases are those which excel technically, or on the business side - the sincere, highly productive people are let go - good for them in a way to escape - and the incompetent residue is becoming more and more concentrated.

Motorola Singapore lays off hundreds
(SINGAPORE) Floundering handset giant Motorola dialled into its third major round of restructuring in Singapore last Thursday, axing another few hundred jobs from its local mobile division. The latest round of retrenchments forms part of the firm’s plans to cut another 4,000 positions globally as it seeks to shave an additional US$700 million off its operating costs.

What is the severance package at Motorola layoff?
They bastardize the severance package…the worst of all was the fact they shafted about 80 employees who were moved to a different campus due to lack of space in Libertyville…..when the layoffs hit those not in Libertyville did not qualify for an additional 8 weeks worth of severance….Motorola made it seem that these 80 were NOT part of Mobile Devices EVEN thou they were and their upper management leadership was in Libertyville
