Wal-Mart cutting 700-800 jobs at its home offices
According to Reuters: “Wal-Mart Stores Inc (WMT.N) is cutting 700 to 800 jobs at its Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club home offices as the world’s largest retailer looks to realign its corporate structure and reduce costs.
The discount retailer, which has roughly 14,000 employees at its home office in Bentonville, Arkansas, is eliminating jobs in merchandising, real estate and marketing in its Wal-Mart U.S. division, while cutting merchandising positions at its Sam’s Club warehouse division.”
I am wondering if Walmart is just doing this at this time to make people think they are hurting also. Walmart has been top heavy for years and wanted to be known as the company with the most employees. I think they are doing this to just get rid of dead weight they have had for years. Funny they do it when everyone else is hurting to make things in our country even worse. I don’t work for Walmart or Sam’s but I think this is a bad joke on their part.

I agree with Joe and I do work for Wal-mart. The economy is bad not the company.
sams club has 3 phases…
phase 1 was to cut all the part timers
phase 2 cutting overtime and staffing according to sales on every area
phase 3 no one knows yet other than home office ….may be its managers or may be it is more experianced associates
The home office layoffs were due. These jobs were merly “made up” job positions which included realty-people searching for new places to expand ect. Wal-Mart is strategically doing a little restructring. This has nothing to do with the company’s performance. This move should strategiclly help Wal-Mart during these tough economic times. Wal-Mart rather than focusing on expanding will probably turn to improving in-store structure—maybe gearing towards offering higher quality products while still maintaining their low-price strategy.
