Stimulus package sets H-1B limits, leaves out E-Verify mandate
A provision requiring banks receiving federal bailout funds to give hiring priority to U.S. workers over foreigners with H-1B visas made it into the final version of the economic stimulus bill that President Barack Obama signed last week.
But House and Senate negotiators dropped a separate proposal that would have forced all employers benefiting from stimulus money to use the government’s Web-based E-Verify system to vet the employment status of their workers.

I just read that the U.S. Congressional approval rating has nearly doubled since last month. http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/02/18/congressional-approval-rating-soars-percent/ I find this interesting considering congress doesn’t give a damn about Americans keeping their jobs as this article proves. The poll participants must have been from the Chamber of Commerce, foreigners and multi-national corporations.
Seriously, no current H1-b visa holder will be affected by this passed bill. Those troubled banks which hired lots foreigners will make up dazzling reasons to labor dept. Then, more and more American workers will be losing their jobs… Cruel fate!!
What this means is that only banks that received TARP funds cannot hire H1Bs going forward. It still does not prevent them from outsourcing to wipro,infosys etc. It actually helps the offshore companies who can still sponsor H1B visas.
Personally I feel the entire H1B system should be shut down and a points based system created like canada and australia.
If you read the wording of the ammendment, it just restates the current H1B restricitons with no change. It doesn’t even effect the hiring of cheap labor form the Indian body shops. However, it does show that DC acknowledges that H1B is a bad thing. The debate is no longer if its bad; but how to fix the H1B problem.
