Cisco Confirms Global Job Cuts
According to Channel Web: “Cisco Systems (NSDQ:CSCO) confirmed to Channelweb.com that it has eliminated a number of positions in the U.S. and abroad as part of its realignment and restructuring initiative that will chop $1 billion out of its operating budget throughout fiscal year 2009.
Cisco would not confirm on Wednesday how many positions were cut. Sources, however, said employees started receiving notifications on Tuesday, and roughly 250 of the positions eliminated were based in San Jose, Calif. Overall, sources said, the number of employees affected was fewer than the 1,500 to 2,000 that Cisco CEO John Chambers hinted at on the company’s earnings call for the second fiscal quarter.”
So 250 has to be a phased approach to “business as usual” realignment. If he stated 1500 to 2000 and stopped at 250, I’m not sure what his original motivation was.

The 250 are fired outright, the rest of the 1500-2000 have been given the chance to find another position within the company. If they can’t , they have to go.

why do you even think about a Layoff? Many times the Director and VP of a company don’t know until the day of. HR keeps this crap drum tight.
I would have to disagree with you there. In one of the technology groups, a DE manager stupidly is already sharing the names of the employees that will be let go - needless to say, this has gotten back to the affected employees who are distraught by this and don’t really have a desire to work anymore.
