Protesters: Stop sending IBM jobs overseas
With hundreds of IBM jobs lost in Dutchess County[,NY] alone this year and persistent and rational worries about more to come in the midst of a recession, a band of activists took to the street corner Wednesday to say Big Blue should think twice.
They rallied a group of about 15 members and supporters to object to what they say IBM has been doing:
• Cutting jobs for Americans.
• Sending work overseas.
• And getting government tax breaks while doing the above.

IBM isn’t the only company that is doing this. Oracle had been sending development and support jobs overseas for years and now has implemented the practice of importing those overseas employees from India and Egypt and China into the US, where they replace US Citizens at half the wage. Hell, I’d rather have taken a pay cut than to lose my job to someone imported on an H1B Visa. I’m all for H1B Visas being given to people who possess skills that are lacking in the US, but they should not be issued when the people to whom they are being issued will simply displace US Citizens from their jobs. Something needs to be done about this altogether.
Wow! I’m amazed. People are just now recognizing that H1Bs are nothing more than a money-saving vehicle for corporations. The US has more than enough highly-skilled IT veterans who can fill these jobs that are labeled as high-skill, low worker availability. H1B is the biggest scam this country has ever unleashed on the US population. Our standard of living is being chipped away at in the name of skill shortages. It’s baloney and the only people who truly support and benefit from it are foreigners and the corporations that utilize the program. I’m sure some tool will reply that if we dont bring the workers over here, that the corps will send the jobs overseas. Guess what, they’re doing both and the US worker is getting screwed! Those of us over 40 will probably be able to squeek through until retirement. This is an issue for our kids and we have to fight on their behalf. Short of being a lawyer, a doctor, or a govt worker, there wont be any decent jobs left in this country. It’s not just IBM or high-tech either. It’s happening across the corporate landscape. Take this fight to your elected officials. Let them know that they are allowing the financial rape of this country unless they do something sensible to limit/restrict US-based corps from importing and exporting our jobs. Steel gone, aerospace gone, auto gone, textiles gone, manufacturing gone. High-tech is next. Fight for your future and that of your kids. By the way, I’m staunchly anti-union, so dont even go there.
