Cisco cutting up to 2,000 jobs-analyst
Cisco Systems Inc is in the process of cutting between 1,500 and 2,000 jobs, according to an report from Thomas Weisel analyst Hasan Imam.
A Cisco representative was not immediately available to comment on the report, which also said that the company could exceed its plan to cut annual costs by $1 billion with job cuts.

But it said it was still cutting these jobs (old portion), does it mean this time’s job cut is not new cut but already planed and not a layoff because it is not hit 10% of 67000?

everyone knows quality of service at call centers in these 3rd world nations. wat more can you expect off these primitively skilled managers from those same nations? csco is cheap. they hire and promote cheap even in US. count all the test team managers. guess where they hail from. why do you think csco quality N customer service sucks? you know the answer now.
look at companies like AAPL. count how many from the 3rd world. not many. you know why apple rocks @@##!!

Most of these guys spend weekend parties + holidays together,
and they have eveything planned out.
Damn right they’ll protect them - because at least Indian engineers know their trade. Someone has to do the job, you know.

I have seen many dumb headed white managers as well. But for the most part, CSCO is spoiled by BelowStandard Indian managers.

well said, you know what it is this blame it on the guy who looks different mentality that makes people around the world hate americans. But gosh no they won’t learn even after the mess they’ve dragged us “3rd world” people into after their banks threw the towel in the ring.
This is confirmed. Many people were notified today of HR meetings tomorrow July 16th. Several will be from the government group.
When developing economies rise, they seek a share of the booty. Most of these actions are dictated by Wall Street need for more and more and more profits. Corporates have no choice but to show profits … and move jobs where the cost is 1/4th of what it is in US.
That’s all well and good. However, there will be a saturation point that will create negative profits for the US-based companies that off-shore TOO much. When the middle-class is eliminated, there will be chaos that will reach into the corporate structures. Crime will skyrocket and society as we know it will be gone. US companies will have to rely more on foreign entities that do not have our level of knowledge and work ethic. Products and services will suffer and so will profits. Could you imagine this country taking off for six weeks every summer like they do in the EU?
We’re almost a satellite of China now. Greed will destroy us and soup lines will return for the vast majority of us. Unions are not the answer, but govt reform is. End H1B-type programs and enact legislation that compels US-based companies to hire from the domestic work-force at a living wage. Take away all corporate welfare from companies that do not comply or attempt to skirt the rules. We’re fighting for our kids futures now. Undercutting from China and India is destroying the way of life that many of our relatives fought and died for. China and India get all the rewards for free off the backs of our forefathers. We dont need foreign workers here. We have already shipped over more than enough jobs and we continue to do so. Let’s start by getting rid of these undercutting wage scums.

why every time Cisco engineers and low ranking managers paid the saving and got layoff? Cisco has over 3000 Director and VP above, out of about 67000 people in the whole ocmpany worldwide; if letting go 1000 executives, Cisco could save a billion $ a year, and to have a more lean and flat organization.

The company cannot afford tons of useless managers these days.

many indians just didn’t do anything at work but they are all safe as long as they have other races in their groups.
I agree with you. It happened in my group.. Guys that come late
and leave early and hardly work did not get cut.. and you guessed
it right, the managers protected them because of the same race.
The CDO problem is not the engineers time to market, it is the horrendous time wasted trying to nail down requirements and get a project staffed for success and into the developers hands. Multiply issues by 100X if you need cross-BU support, or if it is a new product / market. Laying off engineers will just make any concept of time-to-market that much worse. The current layoff won’t likely have product implications for a year or two when current projects roll out, or not. It does appear to have focused on Sr. contributors. The bottom five have been cleaned up for two years in many groups.
