Fuel Games lays off 25% of staff

Fuel Games, developer of iPhone, PC, online, and console games, told Gamasutra that it is cutting staff and is in the midst of restructuring — right after a venture capital injection.

“Last Thursday about 20 people were laid off from the Ottawa office (out of around 100 people), and reportedly the entire staff was told they would not be receiving their paychecks on Friday,” said an ex-Fuel Games employee who wished to remain anonymous.

Apple Cuts 1,600 Retail Jobs As Sales Slow

Apple (AAPL) is cutting costs as its retail division underperforms the rest of its business: In a SEC filing (via CNET), the company reported that it now employs 14,000 full-time-equivalent retail workers, down 1,600 from the end of 2008. That’s a roughly 10% cut.

Apple’s overall sales increased 9% year-over-year to $8.16 billion in the March quarter.

Sources confirm Apple laid off salespeople last week

Sources who wished to remain anonymous for fear of reprisal confirmed reports by Valleywag and 9to5Mac.com that roughly 50 salespeople were let go by the company for “business and economic reasons”, according to one source. An entire sales group based in Austin, Texas, was let go as well as workers in Cupertino, Calif., where Apple is headquartered. Those affected were given severance packages and the opportunity to apply for other jobs inside Apple.

According to Valleywag: “One tipster tells us there are “major layoffs” at Apple. Another writes that “all sales teams have mandatory meetings today” and that “HR booked conference rooms in Cupertino.” Is Apple cutting salespeople loose?”
