Network Rail plans to cut 2,549 jobs

(UK) Network Rail is planning to cut hundreds more jobs over and above the 1,800 planned cuts it announced at the end of last month.

The network now plans to cut a total of 2,549 jobs. But it said the additional losses included sub-contractors, and did not constitute permanent jobs.

BAE Systems lays off 360 workers in Santa Clara, Calif.

BAE systems said Wednesday that it is laying off 360 employees out of about 1,800 at its Coleman Avenue operation in Santa Clara — 20 percent of the workforce. The reduction is due to the Army’s cancellation of the Future Combat Systems Manned Ground Vehicle program, the company said.

Delta eyes more job cuts among salaried workers

United Airlines to lay off 600 flight attendants

United Airlines said Monday that it plans to cut 600 additional flight attendant jobs, effective Aug. 31, as the carrier struggles with lower-than-anticipated attrition and a steep drop in air travel.

Cuts are in addition to the 1,550 flight attendant positions that United eliminated last year.

Finnair talks with staff may lead to 1,200 job cuts

Finnish national carrier Finnair Oyj will this week start talks with staff over cost saving plans which could include up to 1,200 job cuts, the company said on Wednesday.

Like other airlines, Finnair has been hit hard in the recession as people fly less. The company has cut capacity and jobs as a result, saying in late April over 6,000 staff were affected by temporary lay-offs alone.
